Wave Model Applications

Usage of the Met Office global and regional wave model configurations include:

Forecasting

  • Forecaster supported regional, vessel route and site specific descriptions of sea-state
  • Supply of 2D wave spectra for vessel motion algorithms (e.g. in support of heavy lift)
  • Offshore boundary conditions for coastal wave and impacts forecasts

Archive Services

  • Long-term model archives in support of design analyses (e.g. extremes), operability analyses (e.g. threshold based downtime) and legal claims
  • Forecast archives available for case testing

Studies

  • Partners in the DTI Atlas of UK Marine Renewable Energy Resources
  • Partners in the 'MaxWave' project providing research into extreme sea-states and 'rogue' waves

See the Products and Services sections for more information on applications of NCOF forecast systems.
