Services for Government
NCOF institutions have long supported the work of the UK government by providing sound scientific information as an input to departmental activities and policy decisions.
Forecasting
NCOF provides key forecasting and monitoring components for:
- Coastal Flood Forecasts issued by the Environment Agency
- Shipping Forecasts issued by the Met Office
- Metocean information in support of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency's response to marine incidents
- Metocean information in support of operations and exercises conducted by UK and NATO armed forces.
Advisory
NCOF scientists have supported government agencies through publication of collaborative studies:
- Tsunami Risk to the UK (DEFRA)
- Potential marine pollution aspects of the M.V. Napoli (DEFRA)
- Studying the ecosystem impact in the English Channel of the M.V. Ece (DEFRA)
- Future strategy for marine monitoring in the UK (UKMMAS, DEFRA)
- IACMSST commissioned report to UKMASS to advise on the use of models in monitoring
- UK Atlas of Marine Renewable Resource (BERR).
