  • Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) is a European programme to bring together earth observation data (satellite and in situ) to create services to provide the information needed for environmental management in the European area.  NCOF is a key partner in providing operational oceanographic services for GMES, with involvement in European projects building the pilot services including the MERSEA , BOSS4GMES and forthcoming MyOcean projects.
  • The Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment  (GODAE), is a global project aiming to make ocean monitoring and prediction a routine activity similar to weather forecasting. GODAE will contribute to an information system for the global ocean that will serve interests from climate change and coastal preservation through to fisheries and the off-shore industry.
  • The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), is a global project overseeing the development of a consistent and coordinated ocean observing system. NCOF plays a key role in the European component EUROGOOS, particularly on the north west European continental shelves.
  • The Joint WMO-IOC Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM) oversees the integration of ocean observations and marine meteorology into operational systems.
  • NCOF has secured an award from the DTI of £568,000 over three years under the Public Sector Research Exploitation project (PSRE). NCOF is using the project to develop services for the public and private sectors from its experimental oceanographic systems.
