Coastal Seas Model Validation

Sea Temperatures

The coastal seas model sea temperatures are validated against measurements taken from a large source of measurement platforms, made up from the Met Office MAWS stations, oil and gas platforms and collaborations with the Irish Marine Institute and Meteo France.

Plots of daily and monthly temperature validation for both the Atlantic Margin Model and Medium Resolution Continental Shelf model can be viewed by selecting the relevant option below and the desired station on the map.

Surface Elevations and Currents

Surface elevations are validated by comparison to observations from various platforms. The first link shows the model versus observations error of the M2 tidal elevation from the POLCOMS Atlantic Margin Model. The second link shows the same error statistic, where the model data have been compared to satellite altimetry data.
